 Project Timetable

Dear Parent(s), Guardian(s),

This memo is to inform you that your child’s first reading project was sent home on 09/10/10 called Project Timetable.  The theme of our first reading unit is “Animals, Tame and Wild”. The big idea is how people and animals are important to one another with the final and ultimate question of “How can we help animals around the world?”

The first three stories of our first unit are about pets and friendly animals. The last three are about wild animals.  Our first project deals mainly with wild animals, how people are important to them and the many ways we can help those that are in danger.  Your child is asked to research an animal that is considered endangered.  (Google search “endangered animals”) He or she is to find five facts about the animal to write in a graphic organizer and make a poster telling how we as people can help these animals.  (Your poster does not have to look like the graphic organizer in step/week 1.  You may be creative!)

The Project Timetable is divided into three steps.  It lists all the activities and tells the due dates.  Everything your child has to do is listed week by week so you as parents won’t be overwhelmed with doing too much at one time.  The entire project stays at home and each activity is to be turned in on Fridays for the next 3 weeks.  The entire project is worth 300 points (100 pts for each week).  Five (5) points will be deducted for each day any part of the project is turned in late.  This project was created to be fun and simple to complete as well as educational.  Some computer work is involved and most materials needed were included in the packet.

Please have fun with the project and as always thanks for all you do.
